Effect of Diet Protein on Food Conversion and Nitrogen Discharge during Semi-Intensive Production of Penaeus vannamei during the Wet Season

Prior research demonstrated that shrimp production was similar at protein levels ranging from 20 to 40%, when shrimp were stocked at densities ranging from 5 to 11/m2 (TeichertCoddington and Rodriguez, 1995). Many producers feed diets containing protein levels of 27% and higher during at least a part of the growing season. It appears that economic efficiency of production could be improved by reducing protein levels in the diet.
